Latimeria chalumnae      Atypical      H11

※ H11 family introduction

H11 (HSPB8, HSP22) belongs to the family of "small heat-shock protein" and is classified into atypical protein kinase group (1). The kinase activity was first observed when H11-GST fusion protein was purified from bacteria and autophosphorylated in an in vitro kinase assay. In addition, immunoprecipitation with an anti-H11 antibody in human 293 cells revealed a phosphoprotein, which can't be detected when a predicted catalytic lysine was mutated. However, later studies show that the lysine residue may not responsible for the catalytic reaction and the kinase activity is due to a partner protein which binds H11 (2).
